What we claim, and on what basis.
Our machines are put into service in workshops, kitchens, halls and shops. This page states which framework applies, what is established and what remains to be documented — rather than displaying logos with nothing behind them.
Machine safety
Machines placed on the European market currently fall under the Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC. The Machinery Regulation (EU) 2023/1230 replaces it and applies from 20 January 2027: the machines we are still operating at that date will have to meet its requirements, in particular on safety software and on systems with evolving behaviour.
In Switzerland, the Swiss Machinery Ordinance and the Product Safety Act refer to the same body of requirements. CE marking, a declaration of conformity and instructions for use in the language of the place of use are required for every machine put into service.
Standards applied
- EN ISO 12100 — general principles for design and risk assessment.
- EN ISO 10218-1 and -2 — safety requirements for industrial robots and their integration; both parts were revised in 2025.
- ISO/TS 15066 — collaborative applications, where the operator shares the working space.
- Low Voltage Directive 2014/35/EU and Electromagnetic Compatibility Directive 2014/30/EU.
This list is the normative framework applicable to this type of machine. The standards actually applied to a given machine appear on that machine's own declaration of conformity.
Food
The manufacturer's data sheets for the two RoboKitchen models offered, the TC-E20A and TC-E40A, mention neither certification nor CE marking. We do not put a machine into service in Switzerland without its EU declaration of conformity on file.
Food-contact materials fall under Regulation (EC) 1935/2004; in Switzerland, food law and the operator's self-monitoring obligations also apply and remain the establishment's responsibility.
RoboMat machines that hand over a foodstuff — a blended shake, a brewed matcha, a served coffee — place obligations on their operator, that is on the buyer of the machine. Art. 20 of the Foodstuffs and Utility Articles Ordinance (SR 817.02) requires the activity to be notified to the cantonal enforcement authority, and information letter 2017/4 of the Federal Food Safety and Veterinary Office names operators of public drink and food vending machines explicitly. Allergens in a non-prepacked foodstuff must be declared in writing (art. 39 para. 2 of the same ordinance and the Ordinance on Food Information, SR 817.022.16): a machine with no staff cannot fall back on spoken information, so the notice belongs on the machine itself. CaseBOX is not concerned — a phone case is not a foodstuff.
Wash installations
A RoboWash installation requires a compliant connection for water drainage and treatment, together with the corresponding cantonal permits. Opening hours, too, are set by the canton and the municipality: several cantons do not allow Sunday washing. These points are checked during the site assessment, before any installation.
Air cooling
Evaporative coolers use no refrigerant gas. In Switzerland, equipment and installations holding more than 3 kg of refrigerant fall under Annex 2.10 of the ORRChem: a service log, leak testing and handling restricted to licence holders. None of this applies to a process that uses only water and air.
At the workplace, art. 16 of Ordinance 3 to the Labour Act requires rooms to be adequately ventilated and the indoor climate not to harm health; SECO's commentary treats indoor work above 28 °C as problematic for pregnant women. The process has its limit: it adds humidity, and the air blown in has to be able to leave again. The site survey records the existing ventilation before anything is proposed.
Autonomous stores
RoboPos combines cameras with shelf weight sensors, without facial recognition or biometric data; processing takes place in the store and in a secure cloud. A visible notice at the store entrance and a data protection impact assessment accompany this type of installation. Opening hours, however, are set by the canton and the municipality, and the status of unstaffed shops is still debated there: the applicable rules are checked municipality by municipality before any opening.
Payments
Payments are taken by card, at the terminal on the machine or in the store. Card data does not pass through our systems: it is handled by the terminal and the acquirer, which are subject to their own security requirements. Which card schemes are accepted depends on the terminal fitted and on the acquiring agreement.
What this page does not say
We display no conformity until the corresponding document is on file: no logo, no certificate number, no standard presented as achieved. This page states which framework applies and what every machine must carry; it is not a declaration of conformity and does not replace the permits specific to each site.
